Prince George Airport Authority Builds Cargo Warehouse Facility at YXS

Prince George, BC – Construction is well underway on a 25,000 square foot cargo warehouse located at the Prince George Airport (YXS). The $5.5 million facility is situated on the north end of the main runway off of Boeing Road.

President and CEO of the Prince George Airport Authority (PGAA), John Gibson says “this project is a long time coming. It’s an integral part of our airport`s growth and has been a missing piece to our cargo program. With the extended runway, fuel storage facility and now this cargo warehouse, all the key items will be in place for attracting cargo carriers.”

PGAA Cargo Business Development Director Al Ridgway says “over the years we have met with numerous high profile cargo carriers in Asia; the feedback we`ve received is they can`t operate out of YXS until a cargo warehouse is onsite. We look forward to sharing the news with them and continuing to sell Prince George as a competitive viable option.”

“This addition to the cargo program exemplifies the important role that the Prince George Airport plays as an economic driver in Prince George and the surrounding region. The cargo warehouse will have a positive impact on the local economy by opening doors to new national and international export opportunities for local and regional businesses,” says Heather Oland, CEO at Initiatives Prince George. “We have worked closely with the Airport Authority to identify export opportunities in the region in anticipation of this facility being built and look forward to continuing to partner with the Airport Authority to connect exporters with the opportunities this new facility offers.”

The facility features 11 truck dock doors, 3 ground level doors and 1 ramp accessible door. It is being built to house single- or multi-tenants.

IDL Projects is the general contractor on this project. Water and storm services are complete as well as the perimeter ditching. The foundation along with the ramp pedestals have been poured and the building’s framework will be assembled early July with the facility expected to be complete in November of 2015.
