Equipment

Keeping YXS in excellent condition.

The Prince George Airport Authority manages a livery of powerful equipment and efficient vehicles to keep our runways, facilities, parking, and grounds in excellent condition.

Snow Removal

Snow is a major concern at the Prince George Airport, and our maintenance team prioritizes its removal.

Ensuring consistently safe, clear runways and Runway End Safety Areas (RESA) requires heavy-duty specialized equipment. Our team of professionals deftly clears the snow from around the runway lighting systems without damaging the lights. Heavy snowfalls are plowed or swept to the edges of the airstrip and subsequently blown well clear of the area into our extensive snow fields. Slick runways are thoroughly de-iced and sanded to ensure traction for takeoff and landing.

Public-access (groundside) areas are equally important here at the Prince George Airport. We want to ensure that all passengers, crew, transportation vehicles, and airport staff have safe access, even in the worst weather. All pathways, sidewalks, roadways, and parking areas are regularly cleared and sanded.

Grounds and Perimeter Maintenance

When the weather warms up, our maintenance team stays busy, managing the more than 100 acre airport property. We have a fleet of vehicles for clearing dirt and detritus after the snow melts or post-construction cleanup, mowing the green spaces, and keeping all vehicle and pedestrian access routes clean and unobstructed. Additionally, specialized tasks, like transporting heavy or unwieldy items (used in construction or storage)  dock loading, levelling earth, or hauling dirt, are easily accomplished with these powerful machines.

Hauling and Construction Projects

As the Prince George Airport grows, we are constantly improving our buildings and maintaining a safe airstrip and grounds. Regular construction projects require strong and versatile machinery. Transporting heavy loads in all areas of the airport also calls for the right vehicles. Our maintenance hanger is home to specialized machines that can haul, load, clear, and grade for any Airport Authority projects. Our well-trained crew skillfully drives (and maintains) these substantial vehicles, helping to ensure that every project is efficient and successful.

Transportation and Support

Everyday the Prince George Airport maintenance tasks can be accomplished with our fleet of light-duty vehicles. Escorting, airfield inspections, wildlife control, runway condition assessments and reporting, and general Airport Authority transportation fall to these trucks. Each of these machines is equipped with a beacon, control tower radio, and internal communication system. Some are further fitted with computers. Our off-road vehicle is designed for perimeter fence checks and other rough-terrain projects.
