Prince George, BC –Passenger numbers at the Prince George Airport (YXS) were up in the first quarter of 2022. The airport saw 19,370 passengers in January, 20,559 passengers in February, and 27,503 passengers in March. The first quarter of this year has been anything but slow and the Prince George Airport Authority is seeing growth in all directions.
Air service is growing with announcements from both Air Canada and WestJet to increase frequencies this summer and the announcement from Flair Airlines to start offering seasonal non-stop service to Tucson.
The airport was excited to once again welcome the World Women’s Curling Championship teams as they returned for the competition that was originally planned for 2020.
Customer experience continues to be a major focus for the Prince George Airport. Farmhouse Catering has started renovating the old restaurant space and will be ready to open later this year. Early in the year, it was announced that there was a proponent looking to open the first cannabis store at an airport. The regulatory process continues for them at this time. The Prince George Airport Authority (PGAA) is continuing to engage in consultation with our airline partners. Our phone system was updated, including the menu which has greatly improved flow and ensuring you are connected to the right person when you call in. In addition, the PGAA has engaged an answering service to assist with customer inquiries on weekends.
“We understand that the rules surrounding COVID change quickly and that knowing the difference between Provincial and Federal regulations can be confusing,” says Duke. “Having an answering service helps to ensure customers are getting the information they need in a timely manner.”
The PGAA would like to remind the public that masks are still required at all times in the airport and Federal proof of vaccination is still required to fly.
The Prince George Airport Authority will be hosting their Annual Public Meeting and Community Consultative Committee in person at the BC Railway and Forestry Museum on Wednesday May 11 from 4:30-6:30pm.
